For those seeking internships, additional materials are required:
In a maximum of three pages, describe your motivations for participating in the internship program. Discuss

Mailbox: 143 Art & Design Building (Main Office)
Postal Mail: 143 Art & Design Building, MC 590

Selection:
Selection of program participants will be based on academic performance, recommendations,
and writing samples. Only after you are accepted to the Illinois at the Phillips program,
your application materials will be forwarded to Phillips Collection staff to aid in internship
selection/placement. As space is limited, internship placements must ultimately be based on
qualifications and space available. Internship placement cannot be guaranteed.
Next Steps:
Once a student is admitted into the program, all undergraduates (and graduate students who
wish to live in program-sponsored housing) must pay a $350 deposit to secure housing and
placement in the program. Graduate students electing to find alternate housing should submit
a deposit of only $50. The $50 is non-refundable, while the $300 housing deposit will only
be returned upon satisfactory inspection of your apartment at the end of the semester.
Make all checks payable to the "University of Illinois."
Are you concerned about completing your Gen Ed or Major requirements?
UIUC students can enroll in additional courses through the Office of Continuing Education.
They offer both guided individual study courses and online courses, covering a wide range of
required University classes.
Another simple alternative, particularly beneficial for School of Art & Design students,
is to enroll in an extra studio or design course at one of the many neighboring universities
(George Washington University, Georgetown University, American University, University of Maryland-College Park)
Be sure to speak with the Office of Student Financial Aid (to see if you qualify for aid for these courses)
and your academic advisor (about transferability of credit).
Graduate students may also enroll in an Independent Study or Independent Readings course with the
UIUC faculty teaching at The Phillips Collection in order to ensure normal progress toward degree completion.
